John Reynolds Winston, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, left this earthly realm on February 4, 2026, after a life brimming with service, dedication, and unwavering faith. Born on October 27, 1944, John’s journey through life was enriched by his steadfast principles and a boundless love for his family.

He was a 1963 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School. A proud veteran, John served his country valiantly in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, where he earned the rank of Specialist. After his military duties, John relocated to Aurora, Illinois, where he briefly worked for the FBI in Chicago before embarking on what would become a lifelong career at Caterpillar Inc. For over 30 years, he dedicated himself to his work with unmatched reliability and a tireless work ethic that earned him the respect of colleagues and peers alike. His passion for mechanical prowess extended beyond his day job, as John also operated his own automotive repair service, focusing on providing the community with honest and affordable maintenance options.

A man of profound faith, John was a deacon at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where he lived out his beliefs through service and leadership. His strong sense of faith and commitment to his community radiated through everything he did, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

Upon his return to Vicksburg, Mississippi, John remained committed to improving the land of his roots. He poured his heart into developing the community he cherished and shared his skills with those around him, a testament to his lifelong dedication to service.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Wendy Winston (Dannewitz), who stood by his side through life’s joys and challenges. He cherished his role as a father to Elizabeth Jones (Eric), Derrick Winston (Colleen), and Kevin Winston (Jennifer), fostering a nurturing environment filled with love and guidance. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Ashanti, Shon (Jordyn), Dezia, C.J. (Sarah), Damian (Kaylee), Nicholas, and Janesa, as well as his great-grandchildren, whom he adored dearly—Jayden, Jeremiah, Elliana, Elliot, Kameronn, Mariyanna, Ember, Kyzer, Rainlee, Ryker, Evelyn, Even, and Kyrie. The bonds he formed with each of them reflect the love and dedication he poured into his family life. He is also survived by his siblings, Georgianna Taylor and Benjamin Winston (Gloria), who carry forward his spirit and memory.
John was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Winston Sr., and his mother, Rosie Franklin Winston. He was welcomed into eternal rest by his siblings, Joseph Jr., James, Nellie Wilson, Rosemary Pendleton, and Savannah Winston, alongside his baby daughter Danielle and baby great-grandson Kobe Nickleson. Their memories will forever remain a guiding light in the hearts of those he loved. In a world that often rushes past the heart, John Reynolds Winston’s life was a gentle reminder of the beauty of faithfulness, the strength of family, and the power of service. His journey may have closed on this earth, but the echoes of his love and commitment will resonate eternally. Family will be receiving guests Monday Feb 16, 2026 from 6pm to 8pm at Dieterle Memorial Home 1120 S. Broadway in Montgomery. A graveside service will be Tuesday February 17, 2026 at 11am at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora.
